Okay, let’s break this down.
“I am not homophobic but…” Well, isn’t that just an original way to start a paragraph talking down a homosexual ship.
“written as straight in the comics…” Please tell me in which comic Erik and/or Charles said, “By the way, I am exclusively heterosexual and I like vaginas”. I have read and collected almost every Marvel Comic I can get my hands on, and not once have I seen this. And who’s to say that although they’re straight, they don’t have the ability to fall in love with someone of the same sex?
“years and years of publication…” There have been many people that have been with the X-Men fandom since the comics, me being one, and I have shipped Cherik since I picked up an X-Men comic, and I’ve been shipping them through the original trilogy, and through First Class. XMFC did bring in quite a large fanbase, though, but that doesn’t make them any less of a fan or a give them less of a right to ship Cherik.
“due to someone’s whimsy…” Uh, no. We do not ship Cherik for the sake of it. We didn’t think, oh look, two guys, penises always belong together, LET’S SHIP IT. No, we ship them because in the comics and the movies, they have chemistry, not for our “whimsy”.
“Erik was a father… had several female lovers…” And yeah, just because you have female partners, it means you’re not gay. Have you heard of bisexuality? Beards? No? This also links back to a previous possibility of Erik not being gay, but only being gay for Charles.
“I just dislike slash because I don’t think it is true to the characters.” Oh wow, such an ~original argument~. First of all, what if a canon ship is slash (e.g. Blaine/Kurt, Brian/Justin, etc.). How is that not “true to the characters” if they are gay? This obviously isn’t the case, but the generalisation of slash being not “true to the characters” in any fictional media is wrong. Second of all, what about other heterosexual ships that aren’t canon? Those aren’t “true to the characters” either, but they have a boy and a girl, so ~clearly it’s alright~. And does the fandom have to be so creatively stunted that we are confined to canon ships? I’m sorry, but several canon ships in any show, comic series, movie, book, whatever, are just written badly and we are willing enough to find chemistry and possible love in other characters that don’t get to kiss and make out in canon and /gasp, might be the same sex! Also, there are many different canons, the comics, the original trilogy, the cartoons, XMFC; hell, the comics have different canons too. So I could easily argue over which canon you’re talking about on any subject.
So to wrap up, all your arguments are invalid.
They would have been better off if they just said “I just simply do not like Cherik.” No one cares about that, but when you make it specifically about the homosexuality, you need to hush. And they were NEVER labeled as strictly heterosexual. And… Well, why should I say anything when it has already been written in better words by “consortroyal”.
Oh god, MCAVOY’S FACE in that first gif. Charles is just fucking gutted. This is the moment that hurts the most. Forget about the paralysis, it’s like…Charles’ awakening. Even when Erik was killing Shaw, Charles still had hope, you know? He thought, “Well, Shaw is a terrible person and he deserves this, if anyone does. I may be a pacifist, but I understand this and I can live with myself to allow it.”
But then Erik kept the helmet on and went after the boats and this is the moment that Charles knows. They can’t keep on like this. His love isn’t enough to temper Erik’s anger, nothing is, and they can’t be together.
LOOK AT THAT FACE. Fuck, guys, Charles’ “You’re not alone” to Erik went both ways. It meant Charles wasn’t alone any more either. It meant Charles was gaining someone he thought of as an equal, rather than a charge, that Charles had someone he could be candid and honest with. Charles let himself imagine a future where he had Erik, where he and Erik did wonderful things together, where he and Erik shaped the future of their kind together, and he’s never going to have it. All of those dreams are dissolving and he can’t stop it and Erik’s going to leave and he shouldn’t have to. The fact that they love each other should be enough, but it’s not, and possibly the only thing worse than thinking you’re alone is knowing you’re not but not being able to be with the person who matters most.

I’m posting this to nebulash fics because family follows my normal blog…but I usually post as nebulash!

I’ve seen several versions of this manip moments and I treasure them all, but ugh what I would give to the see the next moment, and the next, and the one after that…
Erik kisses like he’s ready to lose the next moment to pain and death. He kisses with every ounce of his being, lips suckling Charles’ and his fingers stroking the pulse point along his jaw. Charles can only keep up with him, mouth parting under Erik’s slow, tender desperation and barely stopping the gasp that wants to leave him when Erik presses forward. His gentle, gun-callused hand slides back into the nape of Charles’ neck and nipping his upper lip, sucking and biting it as if its a bit of succulent fruit that must be cherished.
Charles can do nothing more than clutch to the arms of his chair, tongue meeting Erik’s and twining against it with a tiny, tiny breath of air that reminds him that he’s alive - that this moment isn’t another torture session of his dreams.
When Erik pulls back, its like he’s pulling Charles’ soul out at the same time he releases Charles’ lower lip with a silent ‘pop’ of flesh.
When Charles looks up through his lashes, Erik’s eyes keep him frozen in place, heart palpitating under the intensity of his stare.
Erik doesn’t speak, doesn’t move except to pet the the very ends of Charles’ hair and curl tidy chestnut locks between his fingers.
Charles licks his lips, and Erik dives back in for more.

Fore some reason this makes me think of Nine, Eleven, Ten. I know nothing like this has happened, but I do recall Erik being able to see Charles’s raven once or twice. And if he could see it, why not be able to touch it. *shrug* I can just see him getting pissed off and crazy like he does and hurting one of Charles’s birds. Then trying to apologize and make up for it. I don’t know. I think of weird things at three in the morning.

although considering how long they took with Spidey 3 and PotC 3 Jack Sparrow, perhaps they’ll only release a Charles and Erik when the XMFC sequel has finished its run in theatres.
