Steve McQueen gives Singapore's Board of Film Censors a 'fuck you'
“…the Media Development Authority’s Board of Film Censors gave it a R21 rating and wanted to cut a group sex scene, but the movie’s director refused as he didn’t want any alterations to be made to his work just so it can please the sensibilities of a bunch of red-tape bureaucrats.”
As much as I expected this sort of bullshit coming from the MDA and BFC (really, I’m surprised they were considering bringing in Shame at all) — I just want to bow at Steve McQueen’s altar right now, okay. Of course, this report’s wording is biased and exaggerated, and I am exaggerating it further still with this post, but whatever went on with regard to censoring and screening decisions is clear.
RESPECT for this director and his decision to uphold the integrity of his work. THIS is the way to handle the shitheads here who try and walk all over you. Just. THIS.
